LAID ON THE CHINESE.

At about 8.30 at night (says the " Sydney Telegraph ") two plain clothes officers, acting under instructions from Sub-inspec tor Attewill, proceeded to No. 164 Lower George-street, where, it will be rememberered, a gambling-raid i*as made some three months ago, and having obtained an entrance without arousing suspicion, they sat for a time watching the Celestials engaged in playing their favourite game of fantan. Meanwhile Senior-sergeant Higgins and Senior-con-stable Adair had effected an entrance, and immediately upon their appearance a general stampede ensued. There were between 30 and 40 Chinese in the room at the time and on the alarm being raised they scattered in all directions. The banker and croupier were first secured and locked in a separate apartment until such time as the arrest of their companions, was made good. Sergeant Higgins was soon engaged in a tussle with three of the Mongolians on the stairs. Adair, however, noticing the position of his felJowoilicer, hastened to his assistance and secured two of his assailanta. Several others who endeavoured to escape by the windows were unceremoniously hauled back and placed in custody. In all 10 of the gamblers were captured, and an immense quantity of gambling apparatus and furniture were confiscated.
