So far as mining is concerned, there is little progress to report Mr Parkes is getting on well with his furnace at Karangahake, which will be complete in about a week, when it will require a foitnight to dry before it can bo fired. About 20 tons of Tui dirt will be sent down by the Kotnkti's punt next week, Mr Napier, the assnycr to the concern, is now residing- with his family at Karangahake. There is great faith evinced on all sides in the new pl.mt. Steady work is being done in the Ivanhoe and Truri mines, while Mr Ilertman and his motes in the Woodstock are proving tbe mine a most valuable property. As regards the new Adeline Amalgamated Company, which comprises the Adeline, Rose, Diamond, Dubbo, etc., it is stated that work will be re- commenced as soon as the Company is registsied. Messrs Snod grass and party nrc doing a lot of fossicking in the Bonnie Jean, which adjoins the Dubbo and othei mines, and are getting firstclass prospects. Should this district put. on a spurt the proprietor of the Karangaoake township intends offering the balance of the allotments thereon. At Waihi works arc progressing well. A party of carpenters went out from the Thames on Thursday, while the bricklayers are haid at work under Mr J. E. Shaw, building the foundation, etc. A contract for sinking the draining shaft was let yesterday ; the successful tenderer being Mi- E Bnin at £2 ]f>s per foot. The depth of the shaft "s to be ]S0 feet. Tender are to be opened on Thursday foi building the poppet heads, hoppers, and ti am ways. It is rumoured that a strong syndicate is being formed to take over the Maiototo and Silverton mines. At Waitekauri the usual work is progressing. Mr John Brown is applying for a water right here. It is likely "that applicants forspecial claims will abandon such applications and apply for licensed holdings in their stead. An assay from a seemingly fair average sample "oF the Saxon "reef, Waitekauri, was taken lately and returned at the rate of £165 per ton. The bullion was valued for 55s 9d per oz. A man named Richard Bingham Mason was on Friday last arrested at Paeroa by Constable Mitchell on a charge of larceny as a bailee. The charge is said to have arisen from some mining speculation. Accused has been hiding at Waitekauri for some time. The prosecutors arc Messrs Bloom and Keesing of Auckland.
