THE BOROUGH QUESTION. MEETING AT WAIORONGOMAI.
Last evening a public meeting was held afc Waiorongomai in the Public Hall, to hear an address from Mr W". A. Murray and to discuss the proposed Borough question, Mr Jas. Munro in the chair. The meeting 1 was a large and representative one ; several To .s.roha residents were also present. Mr Murray gave an interesting address inspecting his views on local government generally, but stated it was not until ho arrived at To Aroha that morning that ho was aware he had been announced to spoalc on the Borough question, In our next issue wo shall give a report of Mr Murray's speech, at the conclusion of which a lengthy discupsion took place amongst several of those present relative to the advisability of To Avoha and Waiorongomni uniting in the forma! lon of a-ljoiough to include ilin £,->ld(iold — ornoi.
Mr Murray suofgrstod thnt" it was desirable befoic nny decided step in so important «i matter was taken, that those holoing opposite views with respect to the liability that would attach to the "Borough, etc., should appoint a com* mil tee to represent thorn and reduce their views to writing, so that the matter might he ventilated through the Press for the information of one and all. Mr E. Y. Cox moved and Mr J. Sampson seconded " That the question of deciding whether the proposed Boiough be formed or not stand adjourned for six months," in order that the matter might he more fully ventilated meanwhile. Mr Jas Munro moved, and Mr Alfred Comes seconded, as an amendment, " That the matter stand adjourned for one mo only.'" On being put to the meeting the original motion was carried, and the meeting closed with votes of thanks to Mr Murray for his interesting and instructive lecture, and to the chair.
