Thames, J uly 12. Upok the application of J. IT. Wifchoford for the Mararoa special claim at Waite. kauri being called on at the Warden's Court to clay, Mr Northciott said that, acting under instructions from the Minister ot Mines lie rnusb decline to grant an v more special claims. Tlio ground, however, couUl be taken up a* licensed holdings. Jas. Corbett applied for the Australian Peer licensed holding, Marototo. The Warden said that the Mining inspector had jubt been over this di-trict, and was now preparing" a ropoir, as a icault of which it was pi obable one-half ot the holdings recently granted would revert to the goldh'clds. 'J he ground was taken up foi mci ly for speculative purposes, but ho would not allow it to beheld without being worked. He would make <i rule not Ui grant two holdings to one applicant, unlo-s ho was prepared to go into the witness-box and swear that the claim lirst granted v*as being worked. The present applications, would be granted, but men must be at once employed upon the ground. The application oi J. H. Withefuid for protection for the Consols claim, tlape Creek, was refused, and al?o that of 1). B. McDonald for the lona special claim.
