A Bill is, now before the Legislative Assembly ot Ivew South Wales, which proposes giving [towers to a company for Lhe purpose of lighting Sydney and suburbs by electricity The firm who ha\e undci taken the woik aie Messrs Kirkland and Co., and their enterprise is one apparently which will put Sydney and her suburbs far ahead ot any modern city of the wo! Id. The company propose establishing stations with engine power up to 1,000 h. power, and will supply electricity for lighting purposes cheaper than gas, and more brilliant A bam pie of the work to be done ib nhown by the company at the Crystal Palace Skating Rink, where a light about equal to 16,000 candles is supplied for six hours on a consumption of half a ton ot coal. The enterprise means the investment of JL'2OO,OOO in an cntiiely new avenue of profitable labour.
