THE TE AROHA POSTMASTER AND AH YANG.

(To the Editor). Sin. — Seeing in your issue of the 7fch inst. that Mr Ah Yang, a foreigner residing amongst us, has been most scurrilously slandered, and believing tljat he is not in a position to defend his character, as it is only right that he should do, I suggest that a subscription be made to assist him to bring a case of defamation of character against J. Y. Vause ; as the accusation made against Mr Ah Yang is calculated to do him a serious injury.— l remain, etc., True Button. Te Aroha, July 9th, 1888.

(To this Editor). Sin. — T was greatly pleased to read in Saturday's News your comments on Mr J. P. Vause's letter, as it was a just censure on him for the manner in which lie wrote to the Boaid of Education io Mr Ah Yang's boy. lam also glad to sec the terms in which the Herald referred to the same letter. Such a low contemptible effusion as the letter in question 1 have never read, and ,it clearly demonstrates what a narrow-minded person our local Post-, master is. lam snre, Sir, that no true Englishman will agree with Mr Vause in his uncalled for remarks, and it is my opinion Mr Ah Yang could recover damages in a court of law, as the letter is absolutely untrue in every particular. I am given to understand that Mr Ah Yang has two good sized rooms, which for one bachelorising, are kept very clean ; and no one will I think dispute the fact that the little fellow in question is well-dressed and clean in person. Again, sir, Mr Ah Yang being, 1 believe, a naturalised British subject, has full right to British protection and privileges, and I don't think the Committee of the Te Aroha Public School will do otherwise than treat Mr J, P. Vause and his letter, as both deserve, with the greatest contempt. — I am, &c., Resident. Te Aroha, July 10th, 1888.
