NEW ROAD TO TUL
The Ohinemari County Council are taking the necessary preliminary steps towards having a road suitable for general traffic constructed to the Tni mines ; and the Council's Engineer, Mr W. Tetley, has been engaged in prospecting for the best route and laying off the line of road during the past week. Mr Tetley arrived on Tuesday, accompanied by a couple of assistants, and has been steadily engaged on the work undertaken ever 9ince, and expects, we believe, to get through with it about Monday or Tuesday next. To save any loss of time he has camped at the foot of the bush. The proposed new line of road now being laid off starts a little to the right (or township side) of where the present track enters the bush, and about the same point as where those who surveyed the water race started from. The country is exceedingly rough and difficult to get through, but by working early and late Mr Tetley had laid off some 33 chains by Thursday evening, and he is finishing his work, so far as the grading, etc., andputtinginthe mining pegs ns he proceeds; rind strictly complying with the requirements of Government, that the grade shall not exceed lin 10. The creek was crossed after a distance jf 26 chains had been traversed. It is intended that the present proposed new line of road shall terminate at a point about where Camerons whare is situated. No doubt Mr Tetley will have his report on this roxd ready to be laid before the next monthly meeting of Ohinemuri County Council, which will be held at Paeroa this day week, when it is to be hoped the necessary steps will be taken for the carrying out of the work. We have no doubt the Ohinemuri County Council will net liberally in this matter, indeed it is to their own interest to do so, for J it is to their interest to provide a road suitable for all practical purposes to a district in which such a large area has already been taken up and applied for, , and from whence a large amount of gollfield's revenue is likely to be derived. It | is only reasonable to suppose Govern- j ment will recognise the importance of the j work and give a liberal subsidy, so that the woik when undertaken may be carried out in a proper manner.
