Co.'s Property : Tlieio is little fre3h to chronicle since our report on tins day week : — Ail works are progressing satisfactorily, Mr Howell, the mining expert from America, who arrived on Monday last, has been busily engaged every day since in visiting the various mines, inspecting the plant and available appliances, etc, and has generally fully entered upon the work in connection with which he has come amongst us-~that of advising as to the best method to be adopted, and most suitable plant to be erected, for treating the ores of this portion of the goldfield on a large and systematic scale. It is almost superfluous to add the carrying out of this work is likely to occupy some little time. The Mines : — Tenders close to-day for sinking ar winze on the northern boundary of the New Find and Canadian portion of the Co.'s property. The contractors for driving 100 feet (more or less), on the new line of reef, discovered by Goldsworthy and party when prospecting, and situated in that portion of the Co.'s ground, formerly known as the Army, started work this week. In the Silver King the drive north is now in a distance of about 70 feet. The drive south on the same reef is also in I about a similar distance, and the country being passed through continues very favourable for the presence of the precious metals, and satisfactory progress is being made with the work in hand. New Find : — The quartz being broken out from Maisey'a stopes continues to show gold, and is of payable quality. In the 450 feet level, O'Keefe and party the contractors have now driven along the line of reef a distance of about 50 feet ; the country being driven through is of a kindly nature for gold. In the 400 feet level the ground still continues very hard, and consequently slow progress ig being made by the contractors (May and party), with the work in hand. The drive is now within a distance of about 60 feet from the reef. In the 900 feet level, Wiseman and party the contractors are making fair progress, tho drive now being in a distance of about 40 feet. The country being passed through continues much the same as when last reported on. Colonist Mine :—ln: — In this mine the ttinze is now down about 12 feet. Dabs of gold were seen in the reef at the last

breaking 1 down. Fair progress is being 1 made with tlio low level now being driven to moef- the winze, The tailings plant and furnace are kept steadily at work ; and at the Battery 40 stampers are working one shift, crushing qnartz from Maisey's stopes, New Find mine. The contractors for the construction of the first section of the water-race extension (Burbidgo and Wilson), have, owing to the more favourable weather, made better progress with the work in hand during the past week.
