The Chinese Influx. THE CHINESE CONFERENCE. THE NECESSITY OF RESTRICTION AFFIRMED. SYDNEY, June 13.
The Chinese Conference to-day agreed to the following resolution* :—: — ''That the further lestiiction of Chinese immigiation is essential to the welfare of the people of Australasia." " That the necessary restrictions will be best secured by diplomatic action on the part of the impeiial Government, and by uniform legislation by the colonies." "That the colonies should make a joint representation on the subject to the Imperial Government.'' "That a Dill be drafted embodying the foregoing resolution^.' Messrs lieakin, kin^ton, and Macrossan were appointed a committee to draw up a remonstrance and prepaie a Bill, and were in.-tiucted that the; provisions of the Bill should be made to apply to all Chinese, whetnui British subjects or not; that uuch vessel should not cany moie tlian oiu 1 passenger for every 500 tons and that the influx of Chinese fioni one colony to another should be made a misdemeanour.
