Trc AnonA Silver and Gold Mining Co.'s Property : — All the forty stampers in the battery are now running on quartz being obtained from Maisoy's stopes in tho New Find portion of the Company's property, which is shaping for a payable return. Doth the furnace and also all the berdans in the tailings plant are also being kept steadily at work on ore from various parts of the Company's (ji'ound, principally from the New Find. Fair progress is being made with the works in connection with the formation of the new water race. New Find : — Work in connection with the winzes has been temporarily suspended in consequence of the quantity of water to be contended with, but it is expected that work will be again resumed next week, by which timo it is anticipate tho reef will be cut in the 450 foot level In Maisey's stopes the quartz now being, broken out is believed to be of a payable character. Three new crosscuts are now being driven as under : One of 400 feet, being driven by wages men. M. O'Keefe and party are the contractors for the 450 foot level, which passes through tho Canadian ground. The 900 foot level, Wiseman and party contractors, commences in the Galena claim, passes through a portion of this claim, from thence enters tho Wairongomai ground, and will cut the reef in the New Find underneath what is known as the No 2 run of gold. The contractors Jo i 1 this work have now six men employed, and fair progress is being made. Tho ore coming to grass is of a very refractory nature. Fair progress is being made with the work of driving on tho May Queen reef ; which at present is very much pinched np. Prospecting is still being carried on by several experienced miners. Colonist :-- In this mine a contract was let during the present week for driving a low level on the Hero reef, to cut the run of gold now being worked on ; and when this work has been carried out it should afford fully another 70 feet of backs. A contract was also let this week for sinking a winze on tho run of gold to meet tho above level ; the price to be paid for this work being 25s per foot.
