Sydney, May 26. CIovBRNMiiNT have) decided to enforce the section of tho Chinese Restriction Act of 1881 which precludes vessels from bringing 1 more than one Chinaman to every hundred tons under a penalty of £100 a-head, and ship-owners are to bo notified that such enforcement will bo enforced after to-day.
Sydney, May 27. The Government intend to apply for lcavo to appeal to the Privy Council against the deci&ion of the Supreme Court for granting a writ of habeas corpus. The Changsha has arrived with a large number of Chinamen. Preparatory to the departure of the Menmuir, leaving on Saturday, two of the Chinamen escaped, notwithstanding the precautions made by the Customs, who refused to clear the vessel unless tho number of passengers were accounted for or had paid their fare of £50 each and poll tax. The vessel left, taking 34 back to Hongkong who were brought to the colonies.
