SOIREE.
On last Tuesday evening a Soiree in connection with the Wesleyan Church r was held in the Public Hall, Waiorongomai ; Rev, S. Lawry in the chair. There was a very good attendance, and an excellent programme was submitted as follows : — Part song, " Gather Them in," Company ; reading, " Labour," Mr Lovell ; solo, duet, and chorus, u We've sighted the Golden Gate," Mesdames TTT T Goldsworthy,'H. Goldsworthy, and Company ; song, " Something Sweet tothink of," Rev. S. Lawry ; song, " He came to Bethany," Company ; son£ r " Angels ever bright and fair," Mrs Darby ; solo (oigan), " March aiT Flambeaux," Mrs Basket ; part song, *' One day Nearer Homo." Company p recitation, " The Ruined Cottage," Mrs Goldsworthy ; address, Rev R. Lawry. (Interval of 5 minutes), Solo,pianoForte r " Selected," Mi«s Tonsro ; solo, " Sweet chiming Bells," Mr Kllery (and Company) j song, " The Silve^Cup," Mr C. McLiver ; song, "Break, break, break," Mis* Hartley ; recitation*, "The woman; of mind, and Friendship/ Mr Elliott ; *ong, " To the woods," Mrs P.irby ' T dnpf, pianoforto, " The sleigh ride," Mrs Hunt and Miss Nixon ; song, "Only to see her face again," Mr Ellery ; song, Mr Taylor; song, "Botany Bay," Master Tonge ; song, Miss Hartley : finale, " God Save the Queen," Company. AH performed their parts well, several of the pieces beiner warmly and deservedly applauded. The address by the Chairman was listened to with great attention, and altogether the evening's entertainment passed off most successfolly.
The man who is not straightforward and honest — who tries to be all things to all men — generally ends by being nothing to anybody.
