OHINEMURI. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
Very lifctlo of importance) has taken place since my last. The taking of the poll for the loan is the chief item of interest. At the time of writing, all the returns are not in, only thoso from Paeroa, Karangahake and Netherton, (Waitoa), having been received. At Paeroa 42 voted for, and 2 against I the loan ; at Karangahake, 19 for, 1 against, and at Ncfcherton 2 for, 0 against. It is almost a certainty that the poll will be againsti the loan, as it is necessary that about, 140 votes should be recorded in its favor before it coald bo carried. A local mining case of some interest was heard before the Warden at' I'hames on Thursday last, viz : — Edwin Edwards, Geo. Carrick, J. W. Shaw, and Bernard Wolff v. William Henry Skeen. This was a plaint for the non-working of the Eclipse claim at Waitekauri, (12 mens ground). It was proven that Skeen himself had been the sole occupant of the ground during the past two yours, j The Warden declared the ground forfeited, but gave permission to defendant' to peg out and occupy one man's ground ' in any portion of the claim ho might choose. Skeen is getting some first--class stuff in his workings, and it is probable that the entire ground, including : tnat awarded to the plaintiffs in the case just heard, will be taken over by Mr Myers on behalf cf the Sydney Syndicate which he represents. It is on the cards that two Karangahake properties will be taken over by the Sydney people also. The first one, namely, the amalgamated Adeline, Pubbo and Josephine, is under offer at £10,000, and a irnmber of paid-up ?crip. Of this £5000, 'in the event of the purchase being completed, goes to the Adeline, and £2500 to each of the other claims, the scrip being proportionately divided. The Diamond, Hose and Imperial are also under offer as one claim, but I have not heard the price mentioned, Another large instalment of the Waihi G.M. Co's Machinery, c* Tainui, arrived by tho Kotuku on Thursday. Mr Dickey started to cart the various pieces immediately. It is now hoped that the whole will be got out before the bad weather sets in.
