PUBLIC MEETING.

On Wednesday evenirg last, in accordance- with nn advertisement which appeared in Wednesdays issue, n meeting was held at the Palace Hotel for the purpose of making arrangements for giving Mr C. A. Comes a banquet, when the following wuio present:— Messrs F. Pavitr, G. Elicit, C. Gallagher, G. Lipsey, A. J)ownes A. A. Smith, W. Hetherington, J. Wood, J. 11. l\o\ve, ,T. Bew. 11. Brcnnan, P. Quinlan, D. Brigham, J. Karroll, J. Currie, 11. lllennowe, A. Mcnzies. N. Cleary, J. West, ft. Parr. J. Mills, etc., etc. Mr F Pavitfc was voted to the chair, and called upon Mr Ebert, as convener, to address the meeting. Mr Ebert stated briefly that his object in convening the meeting was becauso ho considered Mr Comes deserving of some public recognition for the plucky and persevering manner in which he had stuck to Te Aroha Gold field ; and assisted to further its progress. Messrs Comes and Chambers had done a great deal lor the place and showed great faith in the district. He wished now to leave the mater in the hands of those present. Mr Lipsey said, they all heard a great deal about the Tui being floated, and they all knew how closely connected with the affair Mr Comes was ; he was decidedly of opinion Mr Comes should be accorded a banquet for what he had done for the place. After some further discussion it was unanimously resolved on the motion of Mr Fan-ell, seconded liy Mr Downes : That a banquet be given Mr C. A. Comes.
