CHIEF RAILWAY COMMISSIONER. APPLICANTS FOR THE POSITION.
Wellington, April 5. Twenty-five applications for the Chief Commi&sionership of Railways Iwe been received by the Government from the Agent-General None of the applicants are men of landing in railway management, with the exception ot a few ex-officers in the Indian Army, who have had charge of Indian railways. Most of the others have held the positions ot goods clerks, traffic clerks, station-masters, goeds managers, and accountants, while a few appear to have been manageis> in charge of small railways. INio applications fiom America are yet to hand, but of those received, none appears to be of equal experience with many of our own chief railway officials.
