ACCIDENT AT WAIORONGOMAI,

On Thursday evening last an accident occurred at the luittny Company's tailing plant, Waiorongomai. It appears" that about seven o'clock on the evening stated, a young man named I William Goldsworthy (son of Mr John Goldsworthy, minor and mine manager, well known'in the district) who is in the the employ rf the "Battery Company, ascended to one of the cross beams immediately above the revolving furnace, for the purpose of oiling one of the shafts which works in barings attached thereto. In some way young Goklsworthv slipped, or lost his balance, and foil with much force, on to the furnace, and from thence subsequently dropped to the ground, the latter fall being greatly broken by u yo'iug man named T. Kail, who was near by, and obseiving the accident, vushed up just in time to paitly catch Goldsworthy as he dropped to the ground. The sufferer was stunned for a time, but soon recovered consciousness and was canied to the Jiatleiy Company's office, where everything possible was done to make him comfortable and Dr Wright of To Aroha telegraph for. The suilerer received a very nasty deep cut and bruise over the rightjSeyeand on the mouth, as the result of his fall on the furnace, and was greatly bruised and shaken as may be supposed; and to add to the trouble some of the tailings got into his eyes ami occasioned great irritation, but he, considering the whole distance from where he fell is somewheie about fourteen feet, had a nonderful pieservaLion fiom being killed ; had not the furnace been underneath him when lie fell he could scarcely have escaped with his life. Di Wright promptly •vsponded to the call ami attended to his injuries, nnd he was carried home, and wfth care and complete rest for a few days, it is expected ho will soon be quite recovered,
