HOTEL BURNED DOWN.
Napier, March 24. Pltane Hotel was destroyed by fire last night, nothing beingsaved. The proprietor, his family and" the boarders narrowly escaped with their lives, and one boarder had to throw himself out of an upper window, and was caught in a blanket. The insurances are all in the Union office as follows : Hotel, £2,000 ; furniture and stock, £1,000.
" Have you seen papa's new dog, Carlo ?" she asked as they sat in the parlour. " Yes," he replied, uneasily, " I have had fche pleasure of meeting the dog." " Isn't he 3piendid ? He is so affectionate.'' " I noticed that he was very demonstrative, " returned he, as he moved uneasily in his chair. "He is very playful, too. I never saw a more playful animal in all my life. " "I am glad to hear you .Bay that. " "Why?" "Because I was a littlo bit afraid that when he bit that\piepG ! out of nVe the other evening he was ip 'earnest!' But, if he was only in play, of coursVifc's all'right, I Can take fun as well as anybody."
