THE WKECK OF THE PLELONE. Tho " Po^t " points out that the wreck of tho I'leione la^t week was owiu^ to want of light on Kapiti Island, and suggest* that the (jio\ernmenl should do something to enable niaiineis to distinguish Kapiti from Stephens Island. Tho wrecks which now lie piled on Waknnni and Otaki beach have been due to such a mistake. Tho two Inlands arc di^imilar enough in outline to those who know them ■well and have daylight and time to enable them to observe accurately, but 01 a da-'k, stormy night or in a fog it i-> vcty easy to mistake one for tho othei , and it would eoem that such an ci ror as suggehted and facilitated by a eurient which at certain times causes vessels to o\er-iun their distance, that dead lockoning shows that they .should be near Stephens Islands when really they have long passed it and aie clote to Kapiti.
