An Electric Dog-cart.
An electric dog-cart for ordinary roads has recently been devised by Mr Magnus Yolk, of the Brighton Electric Railway. The electric current which drives the cart is supplied by six accumulators, which, when fully charged, are good for a six hours' run. These accumulators are placed under the seat. Experiments made with this electrically driven cart show that on asphalt a speed of nine miles an hour is obtained, whereas on a soft macadam road only four miles are possible. With a load of two persons a grade of one in thirty can be surmounted. If the " Electrician " is correct in stating the ordinary speed to be four miles an hour, the practical advantages of this new mode of locomotion are somewhat questionable. Certainly the " vision of a country where all the roads ai-e paved with asphalt, and every one travels on his own electric carriage at forty miles an hour," is not likely soon to be realised.
