Disastrous Fire in Melbourne.
A disastrous conflagration has resulted in the total destruction of the premises, stock and machinery of James .Moore, timber merchant, situated or the Yam\ banks. The ilaincs broke out shortly before 8 o'clock, illuminating the whole city. The fire brigades -were quickly on the spot, but could do little to check the progress of the fire, which quickly devoured everything in and about the piemises. There seemed great danger of thespaika causing other fires, but fortunately, there was no wind and the danger was averted. The whole of the valuable moulding and milling machinery was destroyed, besides the two-story premises and a vast quantity of timber. The damage is estimated at £40,000, and the insurances, as far as know, amount to £5,760. Moore's timber yards and mills were burned down two years ago, and new buildings weie erected at cost of £20,000. The origin of "he present fire is unknown.
