London, January 27. Mr Samson Fox, C.E., the founder of Leeds Forge Co. , has given a donation o* £30,000 to the Royal College {oi Music This sum will be expended upon the building of a permanent home for the institution upon a piece of land at Kensington to be granted by the Commissioners of the 1851 Exhibition, and in close proximity to the Imperial Institute.

ANTI-TITHE DISTURBANCES. Several very disorderly scenes took place yesterday at sales for tithes at the village of Cwm, near St. Asaph. Mr Peterson solicitor, and Mr Stevens, accompained by a force of emergency men and the local police, left Holy well soon after 8 o'clock in the morning, and proceeded to a farm on. Cwm Mountain, occupied by David Davies. Here they were met by about 50 persons all armed with sticks, aud accompained by representatives of the Anti-Titho League, a large crowd being gathered by the ringing of the bells. Distraintwasmadeatthree farms* and in each case very disorderly scenes took place, hhe mob hooting and yelling during the whole of the proceedings. The goods distrained upon were in each case bought in, but not until anti-tithe speeches were delivered. The names of several of the most prominent of those in the crowd were taken by Mr Peterson, and it is probable that legal proceedings will be taken againsfe them. Recent excavations in the Canterbury Cathedral have led to the discovery of askull and quantity of bones which it is thought may prove to be a part of the remains of St. Thomas a Beckett. The Postmaster- General, speaking last night at a dinner of the Wolverhampton, Chamber of Commerce, said he wos happy to state that during the past year ho had: obtained a reduction of over £107,000 in the amount of contracts for the conveyance of mails to India and China, and he intended to ask the Government's permission to expend a portion of the saving thus effected in providing a more frequent and speedier mail service to Australia.
