Sydney, March 15. The special audit of the Corporation books, undertaken at the instance of the Mayor, has disclosed the astouuding fact that the sum of has been embezzled from the city funds. All the books and accounts, covering the dates from January 1880 to June 1881, havo disappeared. Four officers in the Engineer's Department were expectei to be suspended this morning. Melbourne, March 15. An attempt was made by the Harbour Board to impose an export wharfage rate to recoup the Board far its heavy outlay- on improvements, which exceeds three quarters of a million sterling. The Chairman of the Board, however, ruled the motion out of order, on the ground that it was opposed to the fiscal policy of the colony.
