Important Discovery sit Mercury Bay.
"For gome months past a man named Evers and another have been prospecting for- jrold nfc Bay, and we understand their efforts have been rewarded by the discovery of what promises to be a rich gold-bearing reef. In December last the prospectors washed some very favourable piospects in the vicinity of Stoney CreeW, and subsequently discovered the oh l -crop of a reef on the top of the ridge. Home fetooe with gold visible was broken down and forwarded to Messrs Fraser and Sons, Auckland, the assay from which gave most encouraging results, This stimulated the men to further prospect the ground, and last week Evers lodged an application for a lease with the Warden. Everg is now ai ranging with Messrs Schapp and Ansenne, the owners of the property on which the reef was discovered, when the ground will be more vigorously worked. In the event of the reef turning out as good as represented, a number of miners will soon be at work on Stoney Creek.
