Tncda)*, Fcbrnary 21st, 1838.^ Applications for Protection: — Richard Burke applied for protection for licensed holding of 5 acres, situated atWaiorongomai, known as the Welcome, for three months. Granted for three months from January 3let, provided at least one man is kept continuously emplo3 7 ed on the claim. John M. Chambers applied for protection for Champion Lodes, Nos. 1, 2, and 3., Gladstone and Albion, situated sit Tui Creek, r lo Aroha. In making the application Mr Chambers stated arrangements hud been made for the introduction of British capital at an early date, a suitable process for treati ing the refractory ores found at Ivarangakako, | Te Aroha, and 'especially at Tui Creek, To Aroha, by a process patented as Parkes Gold and Silver Ore Extraction Company, and applicant had paid a depoait of £1000 to Mr Parkes, the patenteo, in order to induce him to come out to New Zealand and practically prove its success. Mr Parkos was due to arrive on 27th i March : and during the next three months a considerable sum would be expended in connection with tho erection of suitable plant, etc. The Warden remarked he was thoroughly satisfied with Mr Chambers explanations when lodging his application, the very fact of his having paid down £1000 cash order to bring out an expert, was in itself very gratifying to him (tho Warden). Protection granted till May frth. Application for Special Claim: —J. 1 1. Keep applied for a special claim situated at Tui Creek, Te Aroha, fifty acres, iucluding the following claims, Tui, Keep it Dark, Supr so Nos 1 and 2. (Adjourned from last court day\ The Mining Inspector said all the necessary formalizes had been complied with, The Warden romavked on the sniallness of the amount of capital proposed in connection with working the ground ; In reply Mr J. 3VI. Chambers, who appeared on behalf of applicant, stated tho ore found in the claims referred to was of a very refractory character, and it was not tho same as if a j quartz rich in gold was to be treated. j Application granted, on conditions to be filed, making the basis as regards rents, expenditure of capital, etc., similar to the conditions made with respect to special claims granted J. a Firth and P. Ferguson. Application for Water Bjmjo:— J. M. : Chambers applied for a water race (89 chains in length), at Tui, Te Aroha. Application granfodfor 15 years, on condition that half a sluice hoad of water bo allowed to run down Omaha creek for domestic purposes, nnd that crossings be made over the race wherever required, etc.
