He is the son of a small ironmaster near Mete, who, failing in business, hanged himself. The particulars of the deed are that when Aubertin appeared in ihe,Jobby, he, asked, to see' both M. Ferry and M. Goblet. The latter did not jespond to Au,ber tin's request for an interview, but Ferry did, and on* his appearing Auberton drew his revolver and fired three times 'at him, One of th&Jballs struck Ferry in the chest, nob a serious wound, however, as he was able, supported by friends, to proceed to a hospital, and responded to all inquiries "It is nothing." Bystanders tried to lynch Aubertin after he fired the shots, and the assassin waa with difficulty saved from this pi ompt vengeance. Two of the bullets struck Ferry : one passed rouud the chest and bh.o otlier penetrated the fleshy part of one of his thighs. He returned to his home from the Hospital on foot. Aubertin declared he is one of a band of twenty revolutionists who drew lots to commit the crime and the lot fell to him. He had sworn to do the deed. In the Chamber, heated discussion "followed the attack on Ferry, Rouvier accusing the Radicals of provoking weak-minded persons to deeds of violence. Several scuffles ensued, and it is expected duels will be the result. When examined by the Judge of Instruction* Aubertin declared that he was an anti-revolutionist. He said he was sorry he had not killed Ferry, and expressed the hope that others would be more successful. The crank resembles Guiteau jin vanity. He is the author of various pamphlets, and the .patentee of several machines, the failure of which has disturbed his brain. Ferry was reported on December 12 almost recovered from his wounds.
