There is an exemplification of the truth of the aphorism that "the best laid schemes of inico and men aft gang agley." About two month 8 ago a party of men took up a claim at Mokihinui, and soon came upon payable wash dirt. They thereupon unshipped the windlass, pretending that "the claim was a i duffer, an 4 obtained .other, employment in the district, their intention being 1 to resume operations after the survey had been com pleted. Each man promised to keep, the discovery quiet, but one of them blurted out the truth and a rush took place. The claim was not held in a prqper manner, part of the ground .only being, pegged out. The original, prospectors are not amongst , the fortunate holders, and are oursing the fact that they left the claim unprotected^, V ' *''
