Sydney, January 2. At Tattersairs meeting to-day, the weather was fine, and there was a large attendance. For the Cup, eleven started, Silvermine being the favourite. -Approaching the home turn, Vespaaia struck the rails and fell. Invader and Silvermine galloped into her, and the latter's back was broken, and Robertson, the jockey, had his skull fractured so severely as to render his recovery improbable. The other horses and jockeys wore severely bruised. The result of. the race was probably affected by the accident, Acme only winning by a head. Time, 3mins. 32lsfecs.
