As the Held came down the straight, Toddy commenced to close up, and at the distance post he got his head in front, and was never headed, winning by half a length, the same distance between the second and third horses. O'Brien's Carbine, by MusketMersey, 7sb 71b (Berritt) 1 Middle Park Company's ftavenswing, 6&t 31b (McMorrow) 2 Mr P. Butler's Manton (Holmes) ... 3 Springton (Bst 111b), Credulity, St. Swithin (Bst 41b), Adulation (7st 71b), Exchange (7st 21b), Rainbow (6sb 81b) were the other starters.. After a long delay at the post, the flag dropped to a bad start, of which Ravenswing and Adulation got the best This pair led into the straight, while Carbine, who got off badly, began to move fast on the outside. At the distance Adulation fell back beaten, and Carbine got on terms with Ravenswing, and the colt came away and won easily by half-a-lengfch. Manton was ten lengths away, and the rest eased up. Midsummer Handicap, of 250sova ; one mile and a-half. Mr W. C. Webbs Springton, ,6st (Jackson) 1 Mr W. C. Webbs Ruby, 7st 101b (Derritt) 2 Hon. G. McLeans Mokoia, 6st 81b (Buddicombe) 3 Russley, 9sfc 61b ; Fair Nell, 7st 111b ; Torrent, 7st 61b ; and Sultan, 6st, also ran. The flag fell to a capital start, Mokoia i being the first to show in front. At Ford's Russley was leading Sultan and Mokoia by ; a neck, with Torrent whipping in. At the rails Ruby seemed to have the race in hand, but his stablo companion came with a rush and won easily by naif a length, Mokoia 3 lengths behind Ruby, and Torrent, who came up well in the last quarter of a mile, fourth. Time, 2min. 38£secs. Totalizator dividends : Inside, £47 17s 6d ; outside, £34 Bs. , Selling Race, of 50sovs. Six furlongs. Mr W. F. Rutherford's Parihaka, Bst. 21b. (Mcllroy) ... 1 Mr H. The field were despatched to a wretched start, Repose and Molly Bawn getting away two lengths in front of the field, and Arcade being left at ths post. Repose and Molly Bawn kept in front to the distance, where they were caught by Parihaka, who drew away and won comfortably by a length, a neck between 2nd and 3rd. Time, 1 mm. B£secs. Craven Stakes of 150sovs. Seven furlongs Mr W. C. Webbs Ruby, by AlbanyWave, 7st 131b (Derritt) 1 Hon. G, McLeans St. Ives, 6st 101b (Buddicombe) ... 2 Mr P. Butler's Marlborough, 7st 51b (Holmes) 3 Jack (7st 41b), and Rose and Black (6st 71b) were the other starters. Marlborough was first to move, and led, his field by 3 lengths as they turned into the straight, with St. Ives second and Ttuby third. Marlborough was beaten shortly after passing the distance, and a great race ensued to the post be- ; tween the Dunedin horse and Ruby. Mr Webbs horse got up in the last stride, and won by a head. Time, Imin. 27isec. Totalisator dividends, inside, £3 9s 6d ; outside, £5 7s 6d. Hornby Welter Handicap, of lOOsovs ; 1 mile and a quarter. Mr G. G. Stead's Chantilly, lOst 21b (H. Jackson) .. 1 Mr R. Rutherford's Ravenscraig, gst 91b (Thomson) 2 Mr H. Horsford's Leon, Bst 61b ( Derritt) 3 St. Ives (9st 51b), Kimberley (Bst 121b), Archduke (Bst 101b), and Enid (Bst 51b), also ran. Arcade, 9st 101b, and St. Agnes, Bst 41b, also 6 tar ted. Kimberley was running a length clear of Leon and Chantilly when the freld settled down. This order was preserved to the top of the straight, where the lot took close order. At the distance Kimberley fell over, and Ravenscraig and I eon were in the van, but at the rails Chantilly came up on the inside and, responding to the whip, forged ahead in the last half-dozen strides, and won by half a length from Ravenscraig, who beat Leon by a length. Time, 2mins. . ! 13|secs. Totalisator dividends : Inside, £6 6s ; outside, £8 Bs. Scurry Stakes, of 20sovs. The winner to be sold for 20sovs. and any purplus to go to the funds: One mile. Mr G. Clement's Normanby 1 Mr E. S. B. Bell's Forward 2 Mr W. Russell's Painter ... ... ... 3 St. Agnes, Manilla, and Fickle also ran.
