TOWN BOARD.
A special meeting of To Aroha Town Board was held on Saturday 10th inst, when the following tenders were opened for road formation, etc^ approaches to Wesloyan Church :— Dillon, Pat, £42 19a ; Shine, Jas., £24 9s ; Hethrington, W. f £24 ; Heathcote,||Josoph f £22 4s; McDavitt, F., £21 19«. The clerk stated this contract would not include gravelling", for which work fresh tenders would have to be called. On the motion of Com. Frazar ßecondcd by Com. Gnvin it; was resolved that the lowest tender (McDavitts) be accepted, anbject to the plans and specifications being 1 approved, the Engineer to be requested to lay these before the Board. The "chairman read communications between the Board find MrMillensolieitor, ro this mutter some three months ago. The chairman s.iid the Bonnl had proposed adopting the Rating Act of 1882, but found by so doing no rate could be leviecf during the current financial year, and MiMi!!, ir advised tho adoption of the 1876 Haling Act. It was at h-ngth un.inimously resolved on the motion vjom. Gavin, seconded by Com Hotchcn, That the Board adopt tho Eating- Act of 1876. KesoWed unanimously on the motion of Com G.ivin, seconded by Com Ilott, That Messrs J. Livery and H. Crump be appointed valuators to tho Board in terms oil Section 4, Rating Act, 1876. Some discussion took place regarding tho mariner iv which the books had been kept by the late cleik, Mr Whitehouse, and the. advisability of having the cash book and 'ledger written up afresh from tho start ; ultimately it being decided to let the matter stand over for the present. Com. Ilott gave notice that at the next ordinary meeting of the Board he should move : 1. That any existing Bylaws or resolutions re d,iy and hour of holding the ordinary meetings of the Board be rescinded. 2. That any existing By-laws or resolutions re the days and hours for the Boards office being open to tha public, be rescinded.
