A Dreadful Accident THE FOLLY OF LOADED WEAPONS.
A d i carl ful accident through the careless use of iireaims, and resulting in loss ot life, has occurred al Greta, West Maitland. Ifc appeared from the evidence adduced at the inquest that Evan Thomas, a miner kept loaded iuearms in his house on account of being troubled with hawks, and on the day named one of hib children went into a room where the gun was kept, and plaj ed with it. Shortly afterwards a report was heard, and a little girl named Eliza Ann Thomas, 4 years old, ran out of tho 100 m and dropped dead, the back of the skull being bhatteied. There mas no clear evidence elicited as to how the accident) happened. Her brother thought the deceased trailed the gun along the floor. The jury found death uas> caused by a gunbhot wound accidentally received ; and htiongly censured her father, Evan Thomas, lor his careless conduct, and albo recommended that the gun be taken from his custody.
