A clerk .named Lawrence Henry Vanheo waft, when 10 years of age, adopted by his grandmother, Eslen Aylmer, late of Paris, and subsequently sent out by her to Sydney with a present of £250. She was reputed to be wealthy and he had expectations from her on her decease, which took place in England recently. His father, Henry Vanhee, went to London to receive the money that had been willed to him and then discovered that no bequest had been made to his son. In the meantime the latter, on the strength of his anticipated inheritance. entered into negotiations with John Daniel Grammam, timber merchant, for the purchase of a piece of land in Sydney valued at £512. Ho borrowed £100 from his mother, which he paid as a cash deposit, giving bills for tho remainder*. Orammant conveyed the land to him absolutely. On October 10th a warrant was issued for his apprehension for having obtained property by means of false pretences and promise. This was signed by a Sydney justice, Mr C. Delohery, and Vanhee was arrested in Collins-street on October 15th. The warrant was not endorsed by a Melbourne justice until two days afterwards. Hi 3 Honour referred the matter to the city magistrates.
