English Capital for Colonial Fields.
A private letter received in town from Mr Thos. Melville, who is at present in England, shows ihab attention is generally being turned to the treatment of auiiferous ores. When Mr Melville went home a gentleman in this city asked him to go to Germany and obtain all the information that he could as to the various methods of treating ores in fchab countiy. It was pointed out to him that -it would be advisable to let it be understood that any company with a superior method of treating ores would bo v, elcomed here, and that they would have ample scope for their labours, in addition to which there was little doubt but that the Government would be prepared to make considerable concessions to any syndicate that possessed a satisfactory process for saving the precious metal. Mr Melville writes from England, and states : '' Many people are energetically at work hero on new processes for treating good ores. They are quite as eagerly employed as if one of the reefs existed in their own country. I need hardly add therefore, that if the process for treating refractory ores is a success, there will be a vonewed demand for gold-bearing country."
