MI NING NEWS.
TR AROHA. A wATEii-TiACR has this week been marked out and tipphed for by Mr J. M. Chambers, in connection with the Champion Lode cluims. Cornea and' party are now engaged in putting in a large main low level tunnel in Champion Lode No 3 ground, close to the boundary of No 2. It is expected the main reef will be met with after driving about 150 ft. The country is very favourable for the presence of the precious metals.
WAIORONGOMAI. The battery is now running us follows : 30 head for New Find, 10 for Colonist ; the crushing for both is shaping for a payable return. Everything in connection with the revolving furnace is progressing most satisfactorily.
WAITOA. Numerous tests are still being made of the Waitoa deposit. Stuff treated recently by Messrs Fraser and Sons, from Mr C. Q-oulda pi operfcy, yielded at the rate of 3b 4d* per ton. A parcel of 3 cwt. from Mr F. Strange's land gave a return from the pans equal to 12s per ton, the assay made of the same stuff ranging from 13s Gd to £1 Is 4d per ton. Mr E. W. llanmcr recently forwarded a number of samples of deposit from the Manawaru estate (Te Aroha) to Messrs Fraser, who pronounced the assay value to range from 13s to £2 17s 8d per ton. On Thursday Messralihynd, (Inspector Hank N. S. VV ), who is a shareholder vieited the land acquired by the Chnstchurch syndicate, accompanied by Mr Joy, manager of the Aucklaud branch of the same bank. Negotiations are in progress with a view of having a large quantity of the deposit treated, and the Waitoa settlers are very hopeful with respect to the future prospects of the field.
