The Young Folks.
Little Philologist — Father, if cows are cattle 3, why are not calves kittles ? One day when they had a boiled dinner, papa asked Roy what kind of vegetables he would like. "I'll have all kinds of vegetables except meat," was the quick answer. A little boy, while playing, fell down the steps and hurt him&elt severely. His mother scolded him for his carelessness and he sobbed out : " Mamma, please don't scold me till I get through hurting." " You must not do that, my dear," said a mother to her four-year-old daughter. " Nice little girls never do so." " Yes, they do, mamma, sometimes ; didn't you just see me do it ?" was the bright retort. How to put away jellies so that they will not get mouldy— Why, leave the pantrydoor open, and if there arc any children in the house they'll solve the question for you in five minutes. "Habit"' is hard to overcome. If you take off the first letter it doesn't change " a bit." If you take off another you have a "bit"' left. If you take off another the whole of " it" remains. If you remove another* it is now "t " totally used up. All of which goes to show that if you wish to be rid of a bad habit you must throw it oil altogether. A Tanner. — In a Sunday school in the neighbourhood of Everton. a visitor, in examining the scholars, asked who the Apostle Peter lodged with when on his mission to Cornelius. " With Simon," ua*> the answer. " And what was Simon's tiade?" questioned the visitor. "A tanner, sir." "Very good," the interlocutor continued ; " and what is a tanner ?'' " Sixpence, sir !"
