WAIKATO E LECTION
Mr G. W. Russell addressed tte^ c electors in. the Waihou Public Hall la^ night, Mr Bnrbridge in the chair. TheiQ were over titty persons present, and Mr llusseli received a very patient hearing? speaking for about an hour and a half on the political question generally, and pronouncing himself a supporter of the piesent Government, and thorough Protectionist. Mr Russell stated lie was opposed to any interference with Education, and was opposed to the Bible in schools At the close a vote of thanks and confidence in Mr Russell was carried by 24 votes to 4 ; half those present abstaining from voting. It was remarked Mr Whytes known suppottera were conspicuous by their absence. Mr Russell said that he believed on polling day, at Waihou, he would poll six votes to Mr W byte's one, and also stated at Turua the previous evening he had received a vote of confidence by a tremendous majority.
