TOWN BOARD.

A special meeting- of Te Aroha Town Board was held on Saturday last ; the following members being present : Messrs Dobaon (chairman, pro torn) Fnizar, and Hotchin. Minutes of the special meeting Vl3 framing By-laws held on July 9th were road. By-Laws— Mr Hotchin proposed, " Thac the adoption of the By-laws be proceeded with " seconded by Mr Dolwon. On being- put to the meeting, Mr Frizer voted against the resolution, being- still of opinion that the conditi n\s l.ud down by the Act with lespect to the framing- and adoption of B\ -Laws, had not been conplied with ; which opinion ho had expressed at the previous special m >eting. Messrs Dob.son and Hotohiu voted for the resolution, which was declared carried. Rating— The Chaiiin.in remarked that at the pievious meeting considerable discussion had taken placp, re the adoption of tho Rating Act of 1882, and with the result that it was then considered advisable to postpone taking any further steps in the matter until the present meeting. He wts of opinion it would be well to advise with Mr Miller, solicitor, as to whether the Rating Act of 1882 could be adopted, and rates levied there under speedily or not. Mr Hotchin concurred with Mr Dobsons remarks, and also thought it would be well to get Mr Miller's opinion re the framing and adoption of the By-laws at same time, so as to satisfy Mr Frazer. Mr Frazer said the By-laws having been adopted, and confirm % d, ho did nut see whit good that would do now ; or the use of paying for advice now the matter had been settled. Resolved on the motion of Mr Fruzjr, that the clerk be instructed t> write to Mr J. A. Miller re the adoption of Rating Act, and legality of striking a rate during the current year. Resolved on tho motion of MiFrazertii.it consideration of adopting the Kiting Act bj postponed until next monthly meet- *»£.
