Acid Works Explosion.

A terrific explosion occurred in Robert Dale and Co.'s Chemical Works, Manchester, destroying the building. The ruins took fire and the flames spread to the Panama Palace. The windows for miles around were smashed by the force of the explosion. The explosion occurred in an acid retort. Many houses near the factory were partially demolished, and it is feared many persons were killed. The burning ruins threw out an intense heat and the firemen found it impossible to approach the fire. The military assisted the firemen. A large number of workmen were scalded by the acid or injured by falling debris.
