Dashed to Death. THE FATE OF A DRUNKEN ROPEWALKER AT NIAGARA.
Steve Peer, a local celebrity who outdid Blondin in daring feats around Niagaui, and who recently crossed the Falls on a five - inch cable, is> dead. Ever fince he did his daring act he has been drinking very heavily. On the 2."> th of January, about 7.30 o'clock, Veer went out unobserved with John Gillespie and a stranger, and later wad .seen in the same company near his rope. As he did not show up by 8.30 p.m. and no traceof him could be discovered elsewhere, it was concluded that he must have got on his rope and fallen from it or tumbled over tho bank. Ropes and lanterns were procured, and Peer's brother, with another man, was lowered down, and near the bottom of the incline found his lifeless body, badly cut around the head. The body was raised to the top of the precipice by means of ropes. The general belief is that he attempted to walk out on the cable and lost his footing and fell into the abyss below.
