All the workmen engaged on the Paeroa-HiUutaia section of the Tliatnos Te Arolia Railway foiniatidn contract have struck work, pending the settlement of a dispute between the contractors am! their sureties. It appears that some tivje since the contractors failed to Gnd fciie needful to carry on the work, and die sureties having then signified their willingness- to do so the inon continued operations believing their wages would be forthcoming at the right time ; but it is now^rum^nrod '.that the sureties have repudiated the whole transaction.
