The Surveyor-General and the Representation Commissioners. Wellington, July 14.

Everyone who knows the SurveyorGeneral (says the "Fort") knows that he is intimately acquainted with all parts of the colony, and is a man of indefatigable industry, ability, and energy, but it was scarcely in good taste to set out) these facts in the report of a royal commission to which his own signature was attached. If his fellow-commissioners wished to acknowledge the special value of his .services, it would have been better if they had done so in an addendum to the report, so that Mr McKerrow Avould not have been placed in the rather absurd position of giving a testimonial to himself under his own hand and seal. We have not the slightest doubt that ho fully mciits all that is said of in the report, and considering the terrible mess which the Commissioner seem by common consent to have made of their wurk, notwith star ding the Surveyor-Oeneial's personal knowledge of the country, industry, energy, and ability, we must of course be thankful that his services were available, or it is dreadful to think what further vagaries the Comniis&ioneih might have perpetrated.

A peculiar match was played at Tufnell Park, Kent, on May 7 between Lyndhursfc and Camden Clubs. The latter went in fii-ffc, and were disposed ot for 2 runs, these heint? obtained horn the first two balls delivered.
