BICYCLE CHAMPIONSHIP. The One-Hundred-Mile Race Won by Neilson.
The 100-mile bicycle race for the championship of America was run on the ClarksviUe belt road. There were sixteen entries, six of whom failed to make a start. The ten men who started at 9.15 were: Rhodes of Boston : Whittaker of Chicago ; Croker of Newton, Mass. ; Frazer of Smithville, N. J. ; Brooks of Blossbury, Pa. ; Neilson of Boston ; McCurdy of Lynn : Hollingsworth of Kushville, Ind.; Ashinger, of Omaha and Miongor of Detroit. Tho last named rode a tricycle, and entered to break the 100mile record. Crocker took the lead, with McCurcly and Whittaker close behind. Rhodes and Brooks brought up the rear. The iirst lap of seventeen miles was made by Neilson in one hour and five minutes. Noilson finished first, at 4.05, making 100 miles in six hours and forty seven minutes. Rhodes was second, Crocker third, at 4.08, and Hollingsworbh and Whiltakor fourth and fifth, coming in neck and neck, at 4.09. Whittaker broke down in the last 200 feoD.
