Bessie Mile*, aged 8 years, the daughter of Wallace Miles, a blacksmith at Haddon's Creek, near Louisville, was so badlyfrightened recently that it is feared her reason will be lost. The family were discussing spiritualism, when one of them crept up behind the child and gave utterance to a sepulchral groan. She thought the noise was made by a ghost, and was so frightened that she dropped from the chair, frothing at the mouth and throwing her arms wildly about her. She remained in a dangerous condition, appearing to understand nothing said to her, and Dr. Ruby was called to see her. He says that the nervous shock was a most serious one, and may cause _an impairment of her mental faculties, but says also tha.t she may in tjme fully recover,
