Melbourne, June 20, The celebration Jubilee review of 3,000 Victorian militia, held in tha Albert Park this afternoon, proved a great success. The city was partially illuminated this evening. The weather is cold and threatens rain.
London, June 16. The new trial in the action Bryce v. llusden has resulted in a compromise, Mr Bryce waiving his claim to of the total damages, awarded him in March, 1886. The Bench expressed approval of the settlement, and warmly praised the handsome conduct of Mr Bryce. At the suggestion of the Court, Mr Rusden unreservedly withdrew every imputation reflecting on Mr Bryce.
London, June 17. Last night's sitting of the House of Commons was occupied by a discussion of the Bodyke evictions. The followers of Mr Parnell fiercely attacked the landlords, and bitterly complained of the violence displayed by the police. Mr Arthur Rilfour, Chief Secretary for Ireland, defended the action of the police, declaring that if they exceeded their duty it was because they had been provoked beyond endurance.
London, June 21. The illuminations to-night in honor of Jubilee were of the most brilliant character. Those at the Admiralty especially attracted the immense concourse of people. The streets generally were thronged, but everything passed off in an orderly manner. Telegrams from every part of the United Kingdom, the Continent, the colonies, and America report that the Jubilee has been celebrated with great enthusiasm.
