A Song by Princess Beatrice.

A new song set to Heine's lines, "Im wunderschoeneh Monat Mai," by H. R. H. Princess Beatrice (Princess Henry of Battenberg), has just been issued by Messrs BooseyandCo.,of 295 Regent street ; and at the present time, when an extra wave of loyal expressions is passing over the land, it is likely to attract special attention. Princess Beatrice, like her father, the Prince Consort and her brothers, the late Duke of Albany and the Duke of Edinburgh — composition by all of whom are already before the world- is an amateur musician of no mean powers. Her Royal Highness is an accomplished pianist, and performs on the harmonium and she likewise, we believe, plays the organ. If wo are correctly informed, the Royal circle at Osborne and Balmoral has already been interested in several trifling works from her pen, and a composition ot an altogether higher class — a Kyris in E flat— was early in 1883 introduced into the ordinary service at St. George's chapel, Windsor, where Borne of the church music of the late Prince Consort) is still occasionally used. The song which Messrs Boosey have just published is necessarily of a less pretentious character. Heine's original text has' been gracefully adapted by Miss Francesco J. Ferrari, under the title of " The Sunny Month of May," and both the English and German words are printed. In a fresh and captiviating melody, and an accompaniment which is simplicity itself, Princess Beatrice has exactly caught the bright spirit of the lines, and has produced a dainty little song of which, in the course of the season, draw-ing-room audiences are likely to hear a good deal — "London News."
