Six Chinamen Massacred.
Another scene of bloodshed and murder has been enacted at Moresby Island. Six Chinamen, the crew of tho Pride of the Logan, were killed there on March 26. The vessel had been some time anchored at Dinner Island, waiting for a carpenter to repair her, previous to going to Cooktown, where she had been ordered by the Government. The men, tired of doing nothing, took the vessel out, and began fishing off Moresby Island, but she dragged her anchor in a gale of wind and went ashore. The natives came off in Ihcir canoes, and took the crew in a most friendly manner, one in each canoe, to their villages. They then clubbed them all, cut off their heads, and buried tho bodies. The schooner was rifled and cut to pieces. Mr Douglas had no vessel or force at his command, and could do nothing. He sent a message to the people demanding the skulls, and six men to be sent in to Dinner Island as prisoners, with the. guns and other plunder taken from the schooner. It is hai'dly likely they will do it, although Mr Douglas promised that the lives of the prisoners should be .spared, and so things must rest until a man-of-war comes — and then what will she or can she do ?
