The Truganilii arrived on. the sth instant, with a longer passenger list, than usual. It compri&ed the Hon. Jolm Douglas, C.M.G. (Special Commissioner),, Mr B« Hely, .Mr and Mrs Edolfelb,. and the Rev. G. Pratt. There were upwards of GO Now Guinea natives, whose tiiae of service in Queensland had expired, and who had to be returned to their respective homes in the Louifcifc.de and other groups of islands at the ease end of New Guinea. These were in charge of Mr Cholmondley, who exercised a very vigilant and paternal care over them. Mr Douglas went on in the Titiganini to the east and took with him Mfc Frank Lawes^ who is to represent the Government at leaner Island in place of Mr Forbes. All the natives were landed witljjQut difficulty or hindrance of any kind. Mr Douglas landed at many of the islands, and had conversation with the people wherever it was possible. At Roussel Island they found that tho entire tribe to which some boys on board belonged had been killed and eaten. The tribe which had absorbed and assimilated thoir relatives made no secret of having done so, and very cordially invited the returned boys to land, and make- themselves at homo.
