The bill for the total prohibition of the liquor traffic in the province of New Brunswick was defeated in the Assembly in April 19th, by the casting vote of the Speaker. Friends of the bill confidently expect it will be carried next session. Nova Scotia has voted to secede from the Dominion. Sir Charles Tupper stated in the House of Commons on the night of April 19th, that the gross public debt of Canada on March 31st was 270,000,000d015, the net debt, 206,000,000d015.
