THE QUEEN'S JUBILEE. Mr G. Wilson's Proposals for Celebrating the Jubilee.
Mr Wilson proposed that a number of trees be planted in the Domain, to be called Jubilee Avenue ; and that members of the Town Board, Domain Board, Justices of the Pence, clergymen, and representatives of the farmers, miners, Natives, Masonic body, and school children be each requested to plant some of these trees. That letters be wiitten to the Governor, members of the Ministry, Sir George Grey, Sir G. M. O'Rorke, Sir F. Whitakcr, and others, requesting that a tree be planted in the name of each. Also that tho band be engaged for the day. The school children to assemble, and accompanied by the band and people, march to the Domain. Speeches, suitable for occasion, to bo delivered by those who plant- trees, and the school children to sing and tho band play during the afternoon. That a prize be offered for the best jubilee ode, to be delivered by the compeser during tho proceedings. A varied entertainment to bo given in the Public H.tll in the evening, and the whole to conclude with a danco. A meeting of the Jubilee Celebration Committee was hold on Wednesday evening last. Present : Messrs Qtiinn, Ilotchin, Fi.izer, Dobson, and Corncs, members of the Town Board ; and
Messrs Abier anil Wilson representing j the Domnin, Board. ' Mr Gr Wilson was voted to tho chair. ' It was resolved that Tuesday, the 21st insfc., bo declared a public holiday. * The programme of proceedings pro posed at- the meeting of the Domain $oard on. Monday lasfc was adopted ; it being further decided with tho addition tiint°athletio sports be also held in the oarly part of the day, and that a procession be formed at 1 p.m. to start from the school .ground and march to the Domain. Tho ceiernony of planting the trees would then be commenced, those taking an active part in the carrying out of this part of the programme to give brief addresses suitable for the occasion, after which a Maypole dance would take place by the children and other recreations follow. Messrs Quinn, Frazer, and Hotchin were appointed a sub-committee to arrange for the sports ; Messrs Dobson, Ahier, and Cornea to make arrangement with the band, and see to other details. Tho Clerk of the Domain Board and tho Clerk to tho Town Board were appointed collectors of funds. Messrs Frazer, Whitehouse, Corner, and Dobson were requested to prepare a programme for the evening's entertainment. Mr G. Wilson was appointed secretary to the commitee. Next meeting of this committee will be held at the Town Board office on Monday next, the 6th inst.
