TEA MEETING AND ENTERTAINMENT.

A tea meeting and musical entertainment (proceeds in aid oF Wesleyan Church Parsonage Fund ) was held in tho Te Arohtt Public Hall on the evening of Tuesday last, 24th inst. The tea was laid on three table9,each extending the full length of the hall, included the many good things generally provided on such occasions, and reflected very great credit on the committee of management, and ladies who assisted ; everything being of first rate quality. Tea commensed at 6 o'clock, shortly after whioh hour each of the large tables was comfortably filled. The wants of all were carefully attended to ; the following ladies presided : Mesdames Emerson, Lawry, Cocks ; Misses Reid, G. Maingay, Lavery, King, Hartley, and Allen ; Messrs G. Devey and White also rendering valuable assistance. The musical portion of the entertainment commenced shortly before eight. Mr G. Wilson in the chair. The meeting opened by singin? the National Anthem in honour of the Queen's Birthday, after which Rev. Mr Lawry engaged in prayer. The chairman next made a brief speech in which he stated the meeting was held , for the double purpose of welcoming their new minister, and also to raise funds towards the expense of furnishing the parsonage. The chairman said very great praise was due the ladies and others who had provided such an excellent tea and for the attention paid the wants of all who were present. He understood their Wesleyan friends wore contemplating the erection of a new church, on a more conspicious site than the present one, and wished them every success in their effort. Since Rev. Mr Lawry had come amongst them he had won golden opinions as a minister, and from those who knew him in his private charactor. An oxcelbnt programme was then gon« through, including songs, pianoforte solos, and duets, etc., in which the following took part : Mrs Lawry ; Misses Hartley, G. Maingay, Farrell, Me Clatchey, Tonge, Cocks, M. Larery, Rev. S. Lawry, Messrs Whitehouse and Vause, and a recitation and address by Rev. S. Lawry. The programme was an excellent one, many of the pieces being deservedly applauded, and several encores were demanded. The singing by Miss Hartley, recitation by Rev. Lawry, and comic songs, (in character) by Mr Vause, doseive special mention. The meeting was brought to a close by a hearty vote of thanks to all who had assisted in making it so successful, proposed by Mr Buttle, being carried by acclamation, the singing of the National Anthem, and Rev. Mr Lawry pronouncing the benediction. The following composed the committee of managanient : Mesdames Frazer and Judkins ; Misses G. Maingay, Hartley, Reid, and Burns.
