London, May 26. Considerable sensation h.is been caused in Turkoy by the discovery of! a plot to depose the Sultan and place his nephew on the throns. The consphacy was widespread amongst the oflicials, but it is stated the authorities have succeeded in frustrating the conspiratois' plot, which is attributed mainly to Russian influence. Several Russians who were active participators and large numbers of Turkish officers have boen arrested. O.sman Pasha, and a numbar of prominent Sheiks and Palace favouiites, have been banished for complicity. The Porte refused the demands of the Cretan inhabitants, and threaten? to pro claim martial law th'oughout the island unless at once withdrawn. The Great European Powers dissuade Turkey from rairying out the threat. Ganeral Boulanger has declared that the French army is in a state of readiness in the event of war.
Paris, May 26. Freycinet, who, alter declining to form a now Ministry, had a long conference with Grevy yesteidny, has now accepted the task.
